Welcome to this month’s Design it with Designer Series Paper Blog Hop.
Our Design Team is made up of 11 Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from throughout the world – one from each of the countries/markets that Stampin’ Up! has a presence in. We have come together to share projects focusing on the beautiful Designer Series Paper in the Stampin’ Up! Catalogue.
Each month we will be featuring a different paper and our Designer Series Paper (DSP) for November is Festive Farmhouse
The paper’s colours are Basic Black, Cherry Cobbler, Gray Granite, Mossy Meadow, Very Vanilla, Whisper White. There are also lots of coordinating products as the paper is part of the Festive Farmhouse Suite which you can view HERE.
I’ve made a Gift Box in the Shape of a Satchel – a Festive Farmhouse Satchel.
With the same basic dimensions and construction from two 12×12″ sheets of DSP, the inspiration for this satchel gift bag is a bag by Ronda Wade.
I’ve included the basic instructions for the box below – but let’s look at the gift bag a little more closely first.
The coordinating products in the Festive Farmhouse Suite were perfect to decorate the bag and turn it into a container that holds items the size of a Stamp set. You can see in the photo below of the open satchel, that I’ve put a single stamp case inside – but it could easily fit more.
The straps and handle are made from three pieces of 5/8″ Striped Burlap Trim – one for the strap at the top and two that wrap around the whole satchel and help hold the flap closed.
The photo below shows one strap open and one closed. On each strap, there is a magnet on the back of the ribbon (where the Cherry Cobbler Cardstock is wrapped around it) and one between the starry Mossy Meadow DSP and the Cherry Cobbler rectangle
Here is a side view with both of the straps open and the top flap semi-open.
That top flap tucks in behind the Cherry Cobbler rectangle (see left image in the photo below). When I attached the Cherry Cobbler rectangle to the satchel with several dimensionals, I only placed the dimensionals on the lower half which allows the flap to tuck in underneath it. In both of these images, you can also see that the ribbon isn’t attached to the satchel all the way to the edge of the flap – again allowing the flap to tuck in and the ribbon straps to come down over the top. This fastening system means the satchel can be opened and closed repeatedly without any damage occurring.
The photo below shows the satchel closed.
You can see I have decorated the satchel straps with DSP and the Co-ordinating Galvanised Button where the magnets are. There is also some Mossy Meadow twine from the Festive Farmhouse Cotton Twine threaded through each button.
On the front panel, I’ve added another rectangle of DSP (matted onto Very Vanilla), a strip of Very Vanilla with “Christmas” stamped in Mossy Meadow and a wooden word element (Festive Farmhouse Elements). The stamp is from the Merry Christmas to All stamp set.
Such a versatile set that works with so many other sets.
To the satchel handle, I’ve tied a small gift tag. Made from Very Vanilla cardstock matted onto DSP, I’ve used the Mossy Meadow Cotton Twine to attach it. The “To: From: ” sentiment is from Sincerely Santa – the stamp set that coordinates with the Sincerely Santa Project Kit (Christmas Tags)
One last look at the completed bag.
How to :
The bag is constructed from two pieces of 12×12″ DSP. The images below show the inside of the bag/satchel.
Bag Front (top image in the photo below): Cut 4″ off side of one sheet, score at 2″ on the two short sides and on one long side. With the scored edges to the sides and at the bottom, cut along the vertical score lines at the bottom – up to the horizontal score line. Place Tear and Tape along edges as shown
Bag Back (bottom image in the photo below): Score at 4″ on one side, and 2″ on the other three sides. With the 4″ scoreline at the top, cut along the vertical score lines at the bottom (up to the horizontal score line) and then cut out rectangles at the top as shown. Place Tear and Tape along bottom flaps as shown.
Remove tape backing, fold along scorelines and construct the front and the back of the bag/satchel as shown below.
The front of the satchel is on the left and the back on the right. To complete the satchel, join the front and back together by turning one section over, and carefully placing the back section inside the front section. The bag sides and bottom will be a double thickness.
Decorate as you wish.
