Added 15 September:
Thanks so much CTC Designer Team for choosing my entry as the Top Case. So excited!
I think I may be falling in love with challenges!
Having not really done them before starting the new CASE-ing the Catty (CTC) challenge, I have now found myself checking out several other challenge sites and when I’m making cards these challenge sites are providing a great starting point.
At the Stampin’ Up! Only (SUO) Challenge site, the current challenge – #108 – is to use embellishments. I often forget about our cool embellishments – even though I have quite a few!
This week’s CTC challenge – #8 – features the Card Giving Section (pages 102 – 141) to use as inspiration – and there is a LOT of ideas in that section.
I used the cute dog card on page 112 as inspiration for the layout of my card this week. I just loved how he looks like he is in a Polaroid photo (yep I’m old enough to have taken a few Polaroids in my time!). I purchased the On Film Framelits die when they first came out as I also dabble in photography and thought they were really cool. Guess what – I haven’t used them yet! They are finally out of the packet – yay!
I had also been wanting to make another set of cards using the scene that I had created with the White Christmas stamp set for our team Holiday Catalogue Blog Hop. I decided they would make the perfect image for my photo.
This is the set of the five cards. I find I have to make a set because I just can’t choose one! The ‘photos’ are popped up with dimensionals to give extra depth.
One of the embellishments featured on the card are the Nordic Designer Buttons from the Holiday Catalogue. The colours – Whisper White, Real Red and Soft Sky – co-ordinate really well with the scenes.
I’ve also added another embellishment on each card – the piece of 1/8″ taffeta ribbon. I love how there are so many colours! I’ve used, Real Red, Old Olive, Crushed Curry, Early Espresso and Silver.
You can see how I’ve folded and added the ribbon between the button and the vellum flag in this close-up. Isn’t the tree on top of the car just too cute!
I’ve added texture to the card front by embossing it with the cute Lucky Stars embossing folder and I’ve carried the star theme though to the inside of the card with the Confetti Stars punch being used on the corner of the card insert.
I did get a few questions about how I did the blue sky and other coloured areas so thought I’d share a bit more of what I did.
After stamping the image with Black Stazon, I coloured the areas I wanted coloured with the Stampin’ Write Markers. I then put versamark on top of the colour. I used a Versamarker which I’ve had from when Stampin’ Up! sold them. I then put some clear embossing powder and heat set it. I repeated this as I wanted a really good cover to protect the coloured-in portions when I did the sky – especially important for the snowman and polar bear!
I even did the snowflakes this way but not the tree trunks as the brown was fine over the sky colour.
To do the sky I masked over the snow at the bottom and then used a sponge dauber to sponge Soft Sky onto the card.
I sure had fun combining the two challenges. Check what the design teams came up with on their webpages:
Until next time
Jackie

Thanks Diana. I felt I really had to protect the white of the polar bear & the snowman from the blue sponging and once I’d started – I just kept doing the same on the others 🙂
