Anything but the Holidays

Hello and welcome to the RemARKably Creative Anything but the Holidays Blog Hop hosted by Janet Wakeland.

I thought the idea of a Blog Hop full of non-holiday projects created using items from the newly released Holiday Catalogue was a fabulous one. It’s so easy to think these goodies are only for the holiday they were originally designed for – but usually, there are so many other purposes too!

Take the cute Trim Your Stocking Thinlits Dies:

They are designed to make the Christmas Stockings that could be an advent calendar or a gift box or a tree ornament.

But for a recent team training day where I was doing a presentation about Memories and More – I decided to pair the Trim Your Stocking Framelits with the Bundle of Love Specialty Designer Series Paper and Memories and More Card Pack to make new baby gift boxes and cards

Aren’t these cute baby booties/socks!

They also have matching gift tags attached.

Here they are individually

The little gift tags feature cards and stickers from the Bundle of Love Memories and More Card pack, a sentiment from the coordinating Born to Be Loved stamp set, a bow created with the gold Metallic Edge Ribbon, some Gold Metallic Thread and some have a Gold Metallic Enamel Shape as well.

Thanks for taking part in our blog hop, there are so many amazing ideas and inspiration you don’t want to miss. Remember that currently, you are at my blog Jackie Noble | creativeJax   You can see all those participating and the links to their posts in the list below.

CASEing the Catty – CTC144 – Peace.Joy.Love. is Music to my ears!

Hello and welcome to CASEing the Catty – Sunday Blog Hop.

The new Stampin’ Up! Holiday catalogue went live on Friday 1st September and as the lyric goes – “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”. Which is fine with me – I love Christmas!!

If you don’t have your copy of the Holiday Catty yet (and you live in New Zealand) leave me a comment below and I’ll get a copy to you.
You can also download a copy HERE (11MB).
CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop
Whether you’re joining the Hop here at CreativeJax with Jackie Noble, or if you’ve hopped on over from the fabulous Rachel Palmieri – a big WELCOME!

And this week the CTC Crew is excited to be CASE-ing the new 2017 Holiday Catalogue for the first time! .

We are CASEing pages 4 – 9 which includes the  gorgeous Quilted Christmas Product Suite, a fabulous bundle combining the Ready for Christmas Stamp set and the Christmas Staircase Thinlits Dies along with 3 other stunning stamp sets.
If you saw my post last week (CTC143 -Artistic Expression)  you will know that I used the Quilted Christmas product suite for that project and really love the whole suite. I was tempted to use it again this week, but as I used that suite for CTC143 – this week I’ve decided to CASE a project on page 7 – the cute little Mini Pizza Box.

These are a fun new product which you can find on page 44 of the Holiday Catalogue.
mini pizza box
Here’s may CASE

I’ve used more new goodies! And again there’s a music theme going on! I’m loving the varied musical items included in this catalogue.
The instruments stamped in the background and the sentiment are from the Musical Season stamp set and the Treble Clef in Gold Foil is from the co-ordinating Dies – Musical Instruments Framelits.

Musical Season
These are also available together in the Musical Season Bundle – a great way to get both and save 10%!

The Foil Snowflakes make a great replacement to the doily in the original card. These come in a set containing Gold and Silver.
Foil Snowflakes
My CASEing didn’t stop at one card though …
I’m running an In Color Product Share currently and each month I include a card in the colour each participant is receiving.
So here’s one in Powder Pink

… in Tranquil Tide

… in Fresh Fig

… and in Lemon Lime Twist.
They looked good in my display at the Hawke’s Bay Women’s Lifestyle Expo this weekend!

Remember -if you don’t have your own copy of the Holiday Catalogueyet (and you live in New Zealand) leave me a comment below and I’ll get a copy to you.

CASEing the Catty – CTC143 – Artistic Expressions meet a Quilted Christmas

Hello and welcome to CASEing the Catty – Sunday Blog Hop where I’ll share a sneak peek of an about to be released new Christmas Product Suite.

CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop
Whether you’re joining the Hop here at CreativeJax with Jackie Noble, or if you’ve hopped on over from the awesome Alisa Tilsner – a big WELCOME!

This week the CTC Crew is CASE-ing the Artistic Expression section from the 2017/2018 Annual Stampin’ Up! Catalogue – pages 132 to 181 – that’s a whole lot of expression!

I loved the cards in the “You Can Make It” panel on page 141. I think I may have mentioned that Beautiful You is one of my favourite stamp sets in the whole annual catalogue!  I also really love these “You Can Make It” panels. So helpful as not only do we get some great project ideas – but Stampin’ Up! also tells us what products were used! What a bonus!

I’m busy getting ready for my Holiday Catalogue Launch Parties on Tuesday and the Hawke’s Bay Women’s Lifestyle Expo next weekend – so have CASE’d the card with the circles to make a cute Christmas card as a display sample.

So some sneak peeks for you from one of the gorgeous new suites of products in the new Holiday Catalogue – the “Quilted Christmas” Suite. The Holiday Catalogue goes live on 1st September so not long now!

I’ve punched circles from the Quilted Christmas Designer Series Paper (DSP). This paper is a 6×6″ stack of 48 sheets – 4 each of 12 different double-sided papers – so many patterns! I’ve included another on the inside of the card.

The Lemon Lime Twist “flower” is from the Christmas Quilt stamp set and cut out with its coordinating die from the Quilt Builder Framelits. These coordinating dies not only match several of the stamped images, they also cut out some of the images from the DSP.

The suite also has three stitched felt embellishments – a tree, a star and a mistletoe leaf with berries – which I’ve used on my card.

There is a coordinating Quilted ribbon – but I’ve gone with the sparkle of Real Red Mini Tinsel Trim, which I’ve tied around one of the DSP circles. I’m sure I’m going to go through a few rolls of this trim during the Festive Season.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this quick and easy Christmas card. It would be a great way to use up small pieces of DSP.

Holiday Catalogue - let's get ready for Christmas

As I said earlier – I’m busy getting ready for my Holiday Catalogue Launch Parties on Tuesday and the Hawke’s Bay Women’s Lifestyle Expo this coming weekend.

If you are interested in coming to my Catalogue Launch Party – the details are here on Facebook for the Morning Party and the Evening Party – or email me – jackie@creativejax.co.nz.

If you are coming to the Hawke’s Bay Women’s Lifestyle Expo in Napier do call in at the CreativeJax Stampin’ Up! stand – collect a new Holiday Catalogue of your own, shop in my BOGO Sale (Buy One Get One), check out some of the fab new products and enter the draw for some great prizes. Mention this post and you will earn an extra entry into the Prize Draw!

Colour INKspiration CI15 – A whole lot of thanks!

I have lots to be thankful for and it’s great to pass on that thanks with colourful creations.

colour_inkspiration_banner

Welcome to Colour INKspiration Challenge number 15 and this week we have a fabulous colour palette to work with courtesy of Nicole Wilson!

The crew is kicking off with a Blog Hop this evening and it is great to have Erin Gunson join us as a guest designer.

If you have been hoppin’ along – you will have come from the awesome Mel Pagano. What a beauty of a project – didn’t you love how Mel did the sentiment? Awesome!

A reminder that if you are not part of the Colour INKspiration Facebook Group please do join the group. It’s a place where crafters from throughout the world can share their creativity all inspired by a Pinterest Inspired Colour Swatch.

And here’s this week’s colour swatch!

What another stunning colour combo – Elegant Egg Plant, Bermuda Bay, Lemon Lime Twist and Pool Party! Love their boldness as they contrast each other, and the fresh sense these colours create. Also thought the texture on the shutters was interesting.

I had lots of customers Thank You cards to make after having a stand at the recent New Zealand Craft and Design Show which was held here in Porirua about 10 days ago. If you follow CreativeJax on Facebook or Pinterest you will have seen some sneak peaks late last week as I was creating 50 cards! I decided this colour combo was perfect for these cards.

Here’s the finished Thank You card …

… and here’s what several of them all lined up looks like!

I thought I’d quickly step you through my “product line” – so here’s a photo story of the process!

When I’m making multiples of a card I tend to break it into components, work on each part and then put them all together at the end.

I did the sentiments first. Words in Elegant Eggplant and flowers in Lemon Lime Twist onto Whisper White.

The stamps are from the Hostess Stamp Set Background Bits.

My “Thank you” is positioned a little differently than the original layout. I could have stamped in two parts by inking up one word, cleaning and inking the other – being careful to line things up. Instead, I cut the stamp in two!

I can always stamp it as intended by placing them on the block in that configuration – but this gives me so many more options that I can use quickly!

Handy being able to flip the Circle punch over to see the sentiment and punch it out in the centre.

It was then time for layering the sentiments onto Pool Party – which had been punched out using the sunburst punch. I use the multipurpose glue so that I can move the layers and get them lined up evenly!

Here’s a whole lot of Thanks!

… and lots of dimensionals!

Plenty of cranks on the Big Shot to add some texture – love this folder – the Layered Leaves Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder

My details on the back before I put layers onto the card front makes for easier stamping.

On the layers of Elegant Eggplant and Lemon Lime Twist go – a great contrast to the Bermuda Bay card base.

You can see that texture here.

A piece of Bermuda Bay3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon for each

I really wanted these to be straight and in the same place for each – not so easy when the mats are at odd angles – so I used a strip of loose card to help me position them.

I placed the strip at the bottom of my card – then added Fast Fuse and then adhered the ribbon onto the Fast Fuse. Easy Peasy!

And last – but not least – remove the dimensional backings and stick the sentiment to the front of the card.

Usually, these go into envelopes but this month I’m using some of the confectionery bags from the Thailand Incentive Trip.

Are those cute! They were in the Hospitality Room every day – along with a range of treats! On the last day, we were told there were still lots, o take some home! I thought of thank you cards straight away!

A great way to thank customers – without whom I would not have earned the Incentive Trip to Thailand! Of course, all these orders are not towards Thailand – but rather they are helping me Stamp my way to Alaska!

Of course, all these orders are not towards Thailand as I earned that last year. Rather they are helping me earn the 2018 Incentive – helping me Stamp my way to Alaska!

And as of the beginning of this week, I am super excited to say that I have met the criteria set by Stampin’ Up! and have earned the 2018 Incentive Trip. So I will be cruising in Alaska in July next year!

Now hop on over to the talented Jacque Williams – who has a gorgeous card to share!

Colour INKspiration Challenge Blog Hop – Christmas in July

It’s a Christmas in July kind of a day today!

colour_inkspiration_banner

Welcome to Colour INKspiration Challenge number 14 and this week we have a fabulous colour palette to work with courtesy of Tanya Bell!

The crew is kicking off with a Blog Hop this evening and it is great to have Cathy Pinchbeck join us as a guest designer. You’ll see her creation in a few hops.

If you have been hoppin’ along – you will have come from the awesome Elizabeth Gross. What fabulous cards Liz has made this week – as usual!

A reminder that if you are not part of the Colour INKspiration Facebook Group please do join the group. It’s a place where crafters from throughout the world can share their creativity all inspired by a Pinterest Inspired Colour Swatch.

And here’s this week’s colour swatch!

Isn’t the inspiration picture gorgeous?! Loving the combo of Rich Razzleberry, Smoky Slate, Soft Sky, Night of Navy.

I decided these colours would be a great combo for a Christmas in July card and wanted to finally ink up my Carols of Christmas stamp set.

The Carols of Christmas Stamp set is going to be an early release set that everyone will be able to purchase from the 1st August. So if you have any coupon codes from the current Bonus Days promotion, you’ll be able to use those towards buying this set!

Or – if you can’t wait, and want an even better bargain – you can get if for FREE as part of the Christmas in July Promotion from Stampin’ Up! Join Stampin’ Up! by purchasing the Starter Kit during July and not only will you get the usual great deal of $285 worth of product for only $189, but you will also receive and Essential Gift Pack from Stampin’ Up! (2 blocks, bone folder, paper snips, snail adhesive and grid paper)

Join Stampin’ Up! by purchasing the Starter Kit during July and not only will you get the usual great deal of $285 worth of product for only $189, but you will also receive an Essential Gift Pack from Stampin’ Up! (2 blocks, bone folder, paper snips, snail adhesive and grid paper) and the Carols for Christmas Stamp Set! That’s an extra $145 worth of FREE product! Check all the details on my Join My Team Page

Back to the card … the sentiment is one of two large stamps in the Carols of Christmas stamp set and I’ve stamped it in Night of Navy onto Soft Sky cardstock. I’ve used the coordinating Card Front Builder Thinlits to cut out the border above and below the sentiments and then mounted it onto a piece of Rich Razzleberry card. You can see in the closeup below that I’ve heat embossed part of the sentiment with the Silver Stampin’ Emboss powder.

You can also see the gorgeous ribbon I’ve used – the silver 3/8″ metallic edged ribbon and the silver mini sequin trim. I’ve also added a few loose sequins to my card front – adhering them with Fine Tip Glue. I like using the Fine Tip Glue for small embellishments as it dries to be non-tacky.

In the close-up below you can see that I have also used some Embossing Paste – which I am loving so much! I coloured it with a couple of drops of Smoky Slate Classic Ink Re-inker, mixed it well with the Palette Knives and then spread it onto a piece of Smoky Slate card stock.

It was smooth when I spread it on the card stock, but I stamped the Sheet Music Background stamp into it while it was still soft to get an impression of music in the paste. I thought this tied in with the carol theme of the sentiment! I hadn’t cleaned the stamp after stamping this background onto the card base in Rich Razzleberry. You can see hints of the Rich Razzleberry in the paste. I did clean it immediately and very thoroughly after getting embossing paste onto the stamp though – you wouldn’t want that setting hard onto a stamp!

You can see the background – tone on tone – n the photo below.

And if you are wondering about the extra sparkle on the paste, I sprinkled some Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter onto it while it was still damp. It’s been ages since I’ve used Dazzling Diamonds and I’d forgotten how much I love it. I can see some more experimenting coming happening soon with Dazzling Details and the Embossing Paste!

And last but not least – I usually carry something through to the inside of my card and today it was the Rich Razzleberry Sheet Music.

This Sheet Music stamp is absolutely fabulous, and I’m so pleased that Stampin’ Up! has added a music stamp to the product range!

Now hop on over to the talented Lou Kitzelman to see what she has created with these colours. I love, love, love the details in Lou’s card – especially that edge!

Lou Kitzelman

CASE-ing the Catty – Holiday Thanks

CTC138 Hello and welcome to CASEing the Catty – Sunday Blog Hop.
CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop
Whether you’re joining the Hop here at CreativeJax with Jackie Noble, or if you’ve hopped on over from the talented Julia Quinn – a big WELCOME!

This week the CTC Crew is CASE-ing the Holiday Section from the 2017/2018 Annual Stampin’ Up! Catalogue – pages 112 – 125

What great timing to be CASEing the Holiday Section as there is a fabulous Joining Promotion from Stampin’ Up! which is currently happening!

Christmas in July

If you’ve got any questions – just drop me an email at jackie@creativejax.co.nz and I’ll get back to you!

I’m still enjoying the polished stone technique and have used it again in this week’s CASE of the card on page 124.

I loved how the Stampin’ Up! artist has used thin strips of cardstock on the leaf – what a great idea. I will be trying that out myself soon.

I stuck to mostly the same colours and layout but achieved quite a different look in my card. The main leaf has Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry Ink on alcohol soaked cotton wool balls which have then been daubered onto the Glossy White Cardstock to get the marbled look.

Rather than the Embossing Paste in the background, I’ve stamped in Cajun Craze on the cardbase and added some Linen Thread to get texture.

Here’s a closeup.

I used a square piece of Glossy card stock and cut the leaf using the Leaflets Framelits. I think these framelits and the co-ordinating stamp set –  Vintage Leaves – are my favourites in the whole catalogue! That’s quite a call – but I do love them so and find they are truly a versatile set!

Here’s what I was left with after I cut out the leaf

And here’s what I made with this negative space!

The stamped sentiments on both cards are from the Lovely Inside & Out stamp set. The word cutouts (friend and hugs) are cut using the co-ordinating thinlits – Lovely Words. These are available as a bundle in the Annual Catalogue – so that’s a 10% saving compared to buying them individually.

Lovely Words Bundle

I’ve just snipped the words out of the oval and heart shapes.

I’m looking forward to being at the New Zealand Craft and Design Show in Porirua this weekend.

I’ve been having a huge destash of my craft studio and I’m selling all this at a BOGO sale at the Show – BOGO is Buy One Get One FREE. Those hopping today are all Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators from all around the world who have met the requirements, and earned the amazing Stampin’ Up! Incentive trip – while everyone can try, only a limited number of demos (less than 1% of all demonstrators) reach the level required to earn the trip each year.

Eeek – June – that means we are very close to actually departing on our Incentive Trip to Thailand. Beth and I leave in 2 weeks today!!!

In fact our travel wallets from Stampin’ Up! arrived yesterday!

Aren’t those elephant tags the cutest!

You can only purchase this Hostess set with Stampin’ Rewards.

Other new favourite goodies featured are the Glossy White card and the Silver Metallic Edge Ribbon.

Here’s a close-up where you can see there is lots of embossing and layers in Clear, White, Black and Berry Burst – all on top of a subtle polished stone background in Powder Pink.

CASE-ing the Catty CTC133 Polished Stone

Hello and welcome to CASEing the Catty – Sunday Blog Hop. Tonight I’m featuring a returning favourite of mine –  Stampin’ Up! Glossy White Card!
CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop
Whether you’re joining the Hop here at CreativeJax with Jackie Noble, or if you’ve hopped on over from the talented Liz a BIG hello!

This week the CTC Crew is CASE-ing the Love and Sympathy Section from the 2017/2018 Annual Stampin’ Up! Catalogue – pages 86 – 101.

The card I was drawn to CASE is one chosen by other Crew members too! It’s the grey card on page 101.

The layout is so versatile and can be used for a variety of types of cards.

There is a returning favourite of mine in the 2017/2018 Catalogue – Glossy White cardstock! I was really excited to see this product back in the catalogue as there are some techniques which you really need the glossy surface to get the best results.
One of these is the Polished stone technique and I used that technique in one of my class cards last week.
Here’s a picture from one evening class with attendees and their creations.

And here is a closer view of the card we did.
In this card I used three colours to make the polished stone look – Island Indigo, Marina Mist and Pool Party. I wanted to achieve a water look as I could imagine relaxing in that chair beside the water. I’ve added a couple of Clear Faceted Gems for sparkle!
I hold several classes during class week and while I often don’t make a card at each of these – this week I could as I demonstrated the technique at each class.
The technique involves soaking a cotton wool ball in Isopropyl Alcohol, adding a few drops of ink from the re-inker bottles in your colours of choice. Then  the Glossy card is dabbed with the cotton wall ball.
The ink sits on the shiny – non-porous – surface of the glossy card and as the alcohol evaporates, the ink “moves” on the paper – leaving interesting patterns. The colours are very vivid.

It’s hard to see the glossy – or shiny surface in the photo above – but you can see it a bit better below,
In this card I used Island Indigo, Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder. I also didn’t put so many dabs on the glossy card so there is some white space showing.

The ink dries very quickly using the alcohol.
  • To construct the card, once the ink was dry, I punched a circle out of the centre using the new 2 1/4″ circle punch. (I think this punch is going to get lots of use in this house!)
  • This was adhered to the front of the card so that the circle was stuck directly onto the card with Liquid Multipurpose Glue, while the larger piece with the opening was popped up on the adhesive foam strips.
  • I embossed the sentiment (and how cool is that sentiment – “Just Breathe”? – just saying) onto vellum. To get the blue embossing, I first inked up the stamp in Versamark, then before stamping – I inked it in Island Indigo – then I stamped onto the Vellum. Before doing anything else, I cleaned the stamp to avoid any chance of Island Indigo getting into my Versamark! After that I sprinkled some Clear Embossing Powder and heat embossed it.
  • The vellum banner was attached to the my card with a half-width piece of tear tape and the gorgeous deckchair from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits was adhered over this. Placing these this way meant the adhesive holding the vellum was not visible.
  • Clear or Gold Facetted Gems were used to embellish the card.
You can see these steps below.

These photos also show how varied the polished stone technique can be. Some have lots of dabs of ink appled – some only a few.

Here are the colour combinations the class attendees could use.
Island Indigo, Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder
Island Indigo, Marina Mist, Pool Party
Island Indigo, Tranquil Tide, Elegant Eggplant.
I hope you enjoyed my creations this week – I sure had fun making them! and the bonus is that I have some new cards to post! Yay!

Feel free to leave me a comment in the section below – I love hearing from you!
If you live in New Zealand and would like to purchase any of the products I’ve mentioned – I would welcome you as a customer.

Remember –  CASEing the Catty has a weekly Challenge hosted in our CASEing the Catty Blog Hop and Sunday Challenge Facebook Group. We’d love you to share your own project that takes inspiration from Love and Sympathy section of the catalogue. Colour INKspiration Challenge CI11 – Eastern Palace Suite recoloured

My card today gives the Eastern Palace Suite a colour revamp!

colour_inkspiration_banner

Welcome to the eleventh Colour INKspiration Challenge.

The crew is kicking off with a Blog Hop this evening and it is great to have Juan Ambida join us as a guest designer.

If you’ve been hoppin along – you will have come from the awesome Kelly Kent of My Crafting Journey. What a fab card!

A reminder that if you are not part of the Colour INKspiration Facebook Group please do join the group. It’s a place where crafters from throughout the world can share their creativity all inspired by a Pinterest Inspired Colour Swatch.

And here’s this week’s colour swatch!

I just love the content of the photo – as well as this colour swatch! I mean – mmmm – coffee and macarons – what a great combo and I think Eary Espresso, Marina Mist and Soft Suede are a fab combo too!

This was one of the cards I taught at my Eastern Palace Card Class over the weekend, and was inspired by a home deco item I’d seen by Kirstin Kreis.

The card base is half a piece of Marina Mist A4 folded and I’ve matted the Very Vanilla onto Early Espresso with just a narrow mat showing.

There’s some “random” stamping in all three colours to form a background and some 3D embellishments.

These flower-like embellishments are made from two layers. The bottom layer is Soft Suede cut using one of the thinlits from the Eastern Medallions set which has been adhered to the card front. The top layer of Very Vanilla, was stamped in Marina Mist using one of the stamps from the Eastern Beauty Stamp Set and then cut with another thinlit.

The diecut from this second thinlit often has the inside ‘petals’ forward and the skinny outside part lower. I’ve done them the opposite way with the ‘petal’ part down and stuck to the Soft Suede underneath, and the skinnier part is raised up a little. You can see what I mean in the close-up below.

And those cute wee centres are cut from one of the Eastern Palace Designer Series Paper. I just added some Marina Mist colour with a sponge dauber.

Adhering something so small used to mean I would be chopping up dimensionals – quite fiddly! Well, no more of that – the oh so fabulous Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals are perfect for this task!

How cute are they! And of course so useful too!!!

As usual, I’ve carried the outside imagery through to the inside of my card.

The Eastern Palace Suite is a stunner – but I really enjoyed working in a different colour palette. I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the suite in a different context. The Eastern Beauty Bundle is a great way to get the stamps and thinlits – who doesn’t like getting a 10% discount

Now hop on over the talented  Rachael Palmieri of Stampin’ Pals to see what she has created with these colours.

Rachel

But don’t forget – anyone can participate in the Colour INKspiration ‘Challenge’ by uploading photos of their projects and you can link back to your personal blog if you’d like to.
Make sure you click – Colour INKspiration – and ask to join. Then add the group to your favourites and share it with your crafty friends so they can join in with the challenges too. Hope to see you there!

CASE-ing the Catty – CTC132 – Birthday Clouds with Embossing Paste

Hello and welcome to CASEing the Catty – Sunday Blog Hop. Tonight I’ve got a great project featuring the new Stampin’ Up! Embossing Paste!
CASEing the Catty Sunday Blog Hop
Whether you’re joining the Hop here at CreativeJax with Jackie Noble, or if you’ve hopped on over from the amazing Monique Fielder a BIG hello!

I hope you enjoyed the CASE-ing the Catty Crew’s blog hop last Sunday – our first using the new 2017/2018 Stampin’ Up! catalogue for inspiration. And trust me – there is a whole lot of inspiration between the covers of this catalogue! If you don’t have your copy yet, live in New Zealand and would like to receive your own copy in the mail – please email me (jackie@creativejax.co.nz). You can also view and order online – click HERE
I love that we are CASEing the birthday section this week. It’s not my birthday – but it sure felt like it was yesterday! Look what my friendly courier left for me!!! That’s BBB (Big Brown Box) Stampin’ Up! heaven!
It was fun unpacking all these and sorting people’s orders ready for collection and reviewing my own purchases. I had a class in the afternoon, so had to be patient and wait until later in the day to craft with some of my new goodies. But it was definitely worth the wait!!!

One of the products I was super excited to see in the new catalogue – and was in one of those Big Brown Boxes was embossing paste (page 201).

It was one of the first things I wanted to use – after checking out the complete Memories and More collection and my new Love Today Planner – more on those later!
I just had to use it my project for today’s hop and the gift bag at the top right of page 84 was a perfect to CASE! There are some new decorative masks in the catalogue too – including one with clouds – absolutely made for this CASE!
Here is my project sitting beside the original in the catty.
Rather than a bag – I’ve made a card. I have kept most of the original design elements the same – just given it a revamp – including a whole lot more texture!

Now – back to that embossing paste.
  • It comes in a pottle which is easy to access the paste from.
  • In addition to the paste, you can also purchase a set of three palette knives to assist with spreading the paste on your project.
  • I’ve used the small offset trowel to get the paste out of the container and spread over the cloud mask.
  • Then to add texture I placed the flat surface of the trowel on each cloud and lifted it directly upwards. This pulled some of the paste upwards and gave me my fluffy clouds!
As I was making “happy” clouds, I have not coloured the embossing paste, rather, I chose to leave it white. Depending on your project, and the effect you are wanting to achieve, you can definitely colour the paste. Just add a few drops of any coloured ink from a re-inker bottle.

Here’s my card again.
  • The balloons and banners are from the Birthday Memories Designer Series Paper (DSP).
  • The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Soft Sayings Card Kit. It’s easy to forget about the fabulous stamp set that is in this kit – but it is a great set with a really good range of basic sentiments (Thanks, Happy Birthday, Congratulations, Miss You, Love you etc).
  • I’ve stamped the sentiment onto vellum in Versamark and Lemon Lime Twist and then embossed it with clear embossing powder. This is a fab way to get heat embossing in any of our colours!
  • The balloon strings are made using the Basic Black Baker’s Twine
You can’t really tell in the above photos, but the balloons are curved for a 3D effect. Here are a couple of close-ups so you can get a better view.
In these close-ups, you can see the texture of the clouds more clearly too!
And if you are wondering about the edge of the vellum – it’s punched with the new Ticket Tear border punch. I can see this punch getting a lot of use!

So – I’ve used quite a few new products in my project – and if you are anything like me – your wish list from the new catalogue is long one.
The most cost effective way to get a large amount of product at once is to purchase the Starter Kit – and you can read more about doing that HERE

Another great way to get FREE product is to get your friends together and place an order large enough to earn Stampin’ Rewards.
And Stampin’ Up! is running a fabulous Hostess promotion for the month of June – extra Stampin’ Rewards for qualifying parties!
If you’d like to hold a Stampin’ Up! Party (aka workshop) with me –  have some spaces available for June. Contact me asap.

Alternatively – you can simply group your order with the orders of some friends and place these together. You will all then share the Stampin’ Rewards and any extra rewards. Again – contact me if you’d like to know more jackie@creativejax.co.nz

We’d love you to share your own project that takes inspiration from Birthday section of the catalogue. And remember when you CASE – you’re using the project as a starting place – you don’t have to have the same stamp set or colours necessarily – you could CASE the colour palette – but you could CASE the layout – or some aspect of the project.

Just click on the Join Challenge Button below and you will find yourself at the Facebook group where you can add your project to the album for this week’s Challenge.

If you’re not a member of the group – just ask to join and we will see you there!

Also – we are looking for some new Crew Members – so if you would like to put your name in the ring – please say so when you upload your project to the page.
