Baby – CASE-ing the Catty 5

Good Thursday Evening to you!

“Baby, How the week has flown” –  rhymes with “Baby, We’ve Grown” – the gorgeous baby themed stamp set which I’ve used for this week’s CTC Challenge.

CTC_I Play at CTC

CTC #5 is based on the Baby section (pages 72 to 81) in the Annual Stampin’ Up! catalogue, and I have CASE’d one of the cute cards on page 80.

I’ve chosen Crisp Cantaloupe as my base and made a band with one of the patterns from the Lullaby DSP collection.

Apart from Whisper White, the only other colour I have included is Pistachio Pudding – in the bakers twine, the washi tape and ink for the sentiment, heart background and little flags.

creativejax_2014_08_CTC5

Loved this Pistachio Pudding coloured roll of washi from the Sweet Sadie Designer set which has little hearts on it – just like the paper I’ve chosen from the Lullaby DSP. I kept this “heart” theme going with the In Colour sequin, the punched out heart and the words of the sentiment itself.

The shoes are coloured in Crisp Cantaloupe and the bows are darker as I have coloured them a couple of times so laid extra colour down. You can get great variety with just one marker.

Just as well my phone takes photos as the camera is out of the house today!

CTC Challenge 4 meets Flowery Daydream Bigshot Bundle

Another week has gone by so it’s time to show you my take on CASE-ing the Catty Challenge #4.

CTC_I Play at CTC

In CTC4, the aim was to look at the Wedding section (pages 60 – 71) of the Stampin’ Up! annual catalogue and find a project to re-create.

I chose the gift-card holder on page 70 to CASE. While the challenge didn’t require that the project made was wedding themed, I decided to stick with the traditional wedding colours – I do love silver so it seemed too good an opportunity to pass by!

With the fantastic Big Shot Promotion running during August, I was also delighted that I could showcase one of the five bundles that are exclusively available until 31 August – the Flowery Daydream Bundle. You can check out more about the promotion HERE on my page.

I started with a card base of Brushed Silver cardstock and cut each end with the largest die in the Floral Frames Collection.

Shimmery Silver Giftcard Holder

I then stamped the three largest images from the Day Dream Medallions Stamp Set – using the stamp-a-ma-jig to get them lined up perfectly. The stamp-a-ma-jig is such a handy tool! Each image was stamped in a different ink – Stazon Black, Stazon White and Versamark, which was then heat embossed with Silver embossing powder.

You can see these a little better in the close-up below.

CASE-ing the Catty 4

The sentiment was also stamped with versamark ink and heat embossed in white. This was stamped on vellum as another floral image (Black Stazon again). I cut the sentiment out and then made the shape around the floral image with the smallest of the Floral Frames framelits.
I wrapped white organza ribbon around the card and made the little bow from pieces of the same ribbon. The white organza is still one of my favourite ribbons (and also one of the most economical).
You’ll see a couple of small strips of the Brushed Silver under the sentiment to give some depth down from the bow to the card base.
creativeJax CTC4
When the card is open, you get to see the cool shape at each end, and there is a little pocket with the same stamps as on the outside into which you can put your gift card.
While I’d used white stazon for the floral image, I wanted the sentiments from the Bravo photopolymer set to really pop – so they were heat embossed with white embossing powder.
ANd my tip for the day – always use your Embossing Buddy on your cardstock before you heat emboss. It produces a much cleaner image – especially important when you are using a colour like whisper white!
If you’re wondering how I made the ribbon bow – I watched a couple of videos on Youtube – you can find instructions for anything and everything there! The video below uses DSP to make the bow but I substituted ribbon. It’s a bit long but quite entertaining.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my take on CTC4 – I did enjoy the challenge.

Flower Patch meets Around the World Stampin’ Up! Challenge

Yay – my Flower Patch stamp set and Flower Fair Framelits Dies have arrived. These Big Shot friendly items are available as a bundle in the annual Stampin’ Up! catalogue. Bundles give you a 15% discount compared to purchasing the items separately – great value.

Catalogue bundles are available for the life of the catalogue but during the month of August, Stampin’ Up! is running a Big Shot promotion that features 5 limited time bundles. If you purchase a Big Shot during August then you get one of these exclusive bundles for FREE!     WOW!!!

At my upcoming card classes this month I wanted to use some of the stamp & framelits bundles that are available. I also wanted to introduce photopolymer stamps to the class.

And when I saw the current Around the World Stampin’ Up! Challenges Sketch (AW22), I immediately thought of the Bordering Blooms stamp set for the wavy pattern and things just flowed from there. I imagined cutting the front panel with a framelit to make a frame around the stamp rather than matting an image on top – that love of negative spaces again I suppose!

AW22

So I designed my class card to meet the challenge sketch.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but two of the borders in Bordering Blooms are the same pattern as two of the flowers in Flower Patch so an easy choice to use both sets together. I love how not only do the stamps within a Stampin’ Up! stamp set work together – but often one stamp sets co-ordinates with other stamp sets too.

Flower Patch & Bordering Blooms

Flower Patch & Bordering Blooms

The card features the five new 2014-2016 In-Colors – all five in ink and three of the colours as cardstock as well. The colours work well together, and look great as flowers. I am sure my class attendees will find creating the flowers using 2-step stamping a breeze with the photopolymer stamps.

While there are many framelits in the Flower Fair Framelits that co-ordinate with the images in the Flower Patch set, for this card I only used one – the smallest to create the little embellishments on the front panel.

Positioning the greeting on the front panel was “easy peasy” with the clear photopolymer stamp. I’m loving these stamps!

The white bakers twine and pearl were the final touches.

2014_08_creativeJax_Flower_Patch_Inside

I carried the card theme through to the inside of the card by stamping the Bordering Blooms images along one side.

If you haven’t already watched the Stampin’ Up!’s YouTube video about photopolymer stamps – you can check it out below. It has some great ideas.

Thanks “Around the World Stampin’ Up! Challenge” for providing me the inspiration for this card – I loved using several items from my stash of new products.

Even as a crafter not usually drawn to floral images – I know that I am going to get lots of use from the Bordering Blooms and Flower Patch sets and the matching Flower Fair framelits – as well as the new 2014-2016 In-Colors of course.Logo 72pt

CASE-ing the Catty #3 – Birthday

Wow – week 3 already of the CASE-ing the Catty (CTC) challenge – time flies when you’re having fun.

So challenge # 3 looks at the Birthday section of the catalogue – with the idea being to browse through pages 42 – 59 and find a project that you would like to re-create.
The challenge site says: You can directly CASE (Copy and Share Everything) or use a sketch/layout, colour combo, embellishment, just to name a few examples, as a springboard for your own creations.
CTC_I Play at CTC

I used the layout of the “Thank You” card on page 46 as inspiration for my card, but rather than a “Thank You’ sentiment I substituted the cupcake and other stamps from the Cupcake Party stamp set. This is a brand new set which I had to mount to make this card – yay – I always find it so exciting to put the first ink onto a set! Cupcakes are very dear to our hearts here. Beth makes and decorates cupcakes for morning tea / supper after my classes. So we were really pleased to see the new stamp set which matches the Cupcake Builder punch and just love the dotty pattern on the liner – too cute!

2014_08_creativejax_CTC3

I chose the bright Beach House washi tape (Real Red, Crushed Curry and Pool Party) to add the accents which meant I could match it perfectly with another of the new Baker’s Twines – Crushed Curry! Colour co-ordination is one of the many things I love about Stampin’ Up! products.

2014_08_creativejax_CTC3_closeup

I wanted to add a sentiment to the card and stamped it onto the washi tape in Black Stazon. You can see that I added glitz to the card – I used 2-way glue pen to adhere some Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter. We sometimes have edible glitter on our real life cupcakes so I had to add some to this one too!

2014_08_creativejax_CTC3_inside

And inside there is another tasty cupcake and a little more washi to carry the theme through.

I am enjoying the CTC challenges and look forward to playing along.

Butterflies for Freshly Made Sketches

Good Monday to you!

Hope you had a fabulous weekend. As I said yesterday, I spent much of Sunday crafting away – making up unfinished class cards and creating some new things too.

My July class card last month featured butterflies – lots of them! The stamped images came from the Kinda Eclectic stamp set and were punch using the Elegant and Itty Bitty Butterfly punches. The embossed butterflies we made using the Beautiful Wings embosslit – so cute and something I often forget is in my stash!

2014_07_creativejax_Class_Kinda_Eclectic.jpg

This card was a CASE of one of the Make’n’Takes we did at Convention.

I had fun creating the layers on my card – the butterflies seem as if they are flying off the card!

2014_07_creativejax_Class_Kinda_Eclectic_closeup.jpg

As they were already on my desk when I was crafting yesterday, I was keen to use the butterfly punches again and decided to feature them in a card for the Freshly Made Sketches.

Players Badge

This is the sketch for FMS147:

FMS Final 147-001Making a card for the FMS challenge is another first time for me so I checked out the website to get an understanding of what was required.

Freshly Made Sketches states:

The main idea behind this challenge blog is to use the sketch provided and to create a “clean” card.  …   We are looking for clean-lined creations but unlike Clean and Simple challenges, we encourage lots of detail and embellishments as long as they maintain a “clean” look to your card.”

I hope my card demonstrates this.

2014_08_creativejax_FMS147

The colour combination of Elegant Eggplant, Old Olive and Mambo Melon is from the Colour Coach – a very handy source of inspiration! If you have seen some of my other cards, you’ll know I love using the negative spaces created from punches and framelits, and have employed them in this card to highlight the three colours through butterflies punched out of the Whisper White (matted with Basic Black) using the Itty Bitty Butterfly punch.

I’m so pleased there are more colours available in the baker’s twine and I wrapped Old Olive around the card front before sticking it on the front with dimensionals. The larger butterfly is the one from Kinda Eclectic stamped in Elegant Eggplant onto Mambo Melon cardstock then punched out with the Elegant Butterfly Punch and attached with another dimensional.

As always, I carried the theme through to the inside of the card and punched out a butterfly in one corner.

2014_08_creativejax_fms147_inside

I’m not sure if you worked out in the class card above, that I had used my trusty Big Shot and the square framelits to make the Blushing Bride “window” that the sentiment was bursting through. You are probably already aware that Stampin’ Up! is running a fantastic promotion with the Big Shot during August – and trust me if you don’t already own one – you will so want one even more when you see all the amazing new framelits in the upcoming Holiday Catalogue due to be released on 28 August.

I’ll be posting details about that promotion and how you can get early access to the Holiday Catalogue later in the week – so come back and check it out!Logo 72pt

Project Life – CASE-ing the Catty

Hello Again.

What have I learnt today? – that trying to take photos of Project Life pages in the evening does not work well!

I really wanted to do this week’s CASE-ing the Catty challenge but couldn’t get it finished until today so apologies for the quality of the photos. This week’s challenge was to CASE a project or take inspiration from the Memory Keeping section of the Catalogue.

CTC_I Play at CTC

Check out the CTC Challenge page

I’d started earlier in the week with the colours form the Around the World Stampin’ Up! Challenge (check it out HERE) as I wanted to do a page of our son and daughter from when they were younger and the colours of Strawberry Slush, Pool Party, Basic Grey and Whisper White were perfect – though I rarely dressed them in traditional colours.

I was inspired to do this from page 24 of the catalogue and wanted to show their everyday life. What better way than pictures of them perched on their favourite couch, taking a bath and having a story read to them by their Dad. And all these pictures were taken on one day about 19 years ago!

Beth & Ross Chilling on their little couch

Beth & Ross in the bath & having a story after a busy day.

I used cards and accessories from Project Life Everyday Adventure and the Playground Collections – they each had some of the colours I wanted to use. I also added a few details in Strawberry Slush, Pool Party and Basic Grey using the PL Day to Day,  Back to Basics Alphabet and Yipee-Skipee stamp sets.

I haven’t put my journalling in yet, but luckily I was usually good at writing on the back of photos at the time and even have a couple of Beth’s sayings from the time recorded!

I’ll try and add some better photos tomorrow – was keen to support the challenge before it closes!

ps Have updated the photos so it’s a bit easier to see what is in the photos now and the colours are more true to life.

Until next timeLogo 72pt
